"Rouge-trading Across the Universe"

"The Lost Crate" - A Rogue Trader progression narrative

We had a small Rogue Trader game the other week (yes, using the RT game rules) and it was pure nostalgia seeing all the old minis on an equally pathos-laden table :)

Fellow oldhammerer, Nuka, and I had been talking about getting a series of games together before the lockdown and we jumped the first opportunity that presented itself.

I wrote up a loose storyline and fitted it to the Mordheim scenario "The Lost Prince" (a capture the flag-style mission). The scenario intro reads a bit like this:

"The (in)Famous celebrity chef, Remee Tredzepi, has lost a load of precious cargo crates containing a selection of endangered rare beasts meant to be the main ingredients of his most recent connoisseurs-dinner, (to be enjoyed by the rich and famous in Proximo Prime, a hive city on the main planet in the cluster).

The cargo was lost en route to the remote smuggler’s hub, Lohan’s Reach, and is believed to be found among the scrap heaps near the loading docks used by Tredzepi’s longtime compadre, the notorious interstellar buccaneer, Trick Beastley.

You have been hired, through independent contractors, to retrieve said crates. Only problem, you are not the only one who has been approached! Also, the local plantery defense has been hinted that something is afoot and are lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on suspicious activity."

We decided to just make up two crews not concerning ourselves with point values and balance, using the appropriate statlines and equipment from the book. Without further ado, I present the pictures taken on the day.

Overview of the table
We included a number of NPCs who would alert the local authorities when activated.
More NPCs.
Something lurking in the cargo bay.
The underhive scum silence an old man in street (they blew his face off).
The (evil) Rogue Trader psyker leads his salty space-sea dogs into the city from scrap site shags (obligatory beer pic).
The Rogue Trader crew advancing.
Inquistor Jahon Gothhart leading his crew of hired (and expendable) ragtags through the streets of Lohan's Reach.
Gothhart draws a deep breath before enter the fray.
Singlehandedly, Gothhart holds the Rogue Traders at bay while his hired thugs retrieve the crate containing the exotic beast for Remee's restaurant.
Battle in the streets. Rogue Trader hard noses in close quarter fighting with the underhive cutthroats.
The pirates try to snatch the beast from the dregs.
Once alerted, The Planetary Defense sends a squad of hardened veterans to intercept the perpetrators.
A lone Imperial Guard sneaks around the back streets to ambush Gothhart.

Although not documented, Gothhart managed to lead the beast safely out the board, thus "winning" the scenario. All of his crew were slaughtered, as were the Rogue Trader pirates, so we will have to cook up something new for next time. I have an idea which involves the NPCs from this game. And the infamous chef and his cronies obviously :)

Oi wat's dis den?

Today I decided to revive my old lead blog. I have felt a joy rekindled lately for this old lead hobby and think now that I will try to blog again (not that I've been the most active blogger before).

I have no photos for you tonite gentlemen, but before I bid you adieu I'll tease a little with what's to come.

Current projects (text lists, always a hoot!):

  • Good vs. Evil wargaming - ongoing fantasy project morphed into a Realm of Chaos revival
  • It came from the desert - 20mm apocalypse game with cars and motor bikes
  • Repainting my Dark Elf BB team - currently playing in the Roguebowl league at the local club
  • and 4-5 other ongoing projects
Also, I spend my hobby time completing collections of old lead, having recently completed my collection of old Citadel Goodwin Ogres and also his Khorne Chaos Champions. I'm also very close to a complete 2nd ed. 40k Ork collection, missing mostly gretchins and such.

Good night!
Thomas

Post Scriptum

A wee pic for you merry lead heads :)

My ashwasting scavvies, well some of them - can you spot any Oldhammer bits?

Last night we had ourselves a game of 40k skirmish. Niels brought his Iron Fist space marine, I compiled a list of underhive scum, number 4 vs 13. We used the community made rules set, In the Emperor's Name. The game was fast played, rules never bogged us down and it was a bloody slaughter, precisely as 40k should be!

Underhive scum line up for the slaugther

Canned meat lined up to be slaughtered

Inspecting the meat from a different angle

Former rogue trader gone underhive scum leader, Baetlegoys leads his armed vermin towards the hidden crates

Sniper Dead Sirious Black and bodyguard sneak around in the hills above the battle field

Iron Fists advances in open, confident their armour will provide ample cover

Both sides close in on the crates

Remants of the past occupants of this barren wasteland

Impact!

First blood! First turn of shooting saw the underhive leader, flying mutant and pit slave go down to the superior fire of the Emperor's finest battle troops

Melee! Despite their best efforts, the Iron Fists did not slaughter any lambs today

Torrent of fire!

The underhive scum positioned well to snipe the marines while their less intelligent mates kept them occupied

Interim leader Pretty Tony leading the pack, laying support fire from an abandoned water plant

Scum hiver Scabs getting away with the mystery crates

Scabs getting caught by bolter fire on his way up hill, moments later the Iron Fist commander fell to the torrent of fire and the hive scum managed to get back to their den with a crate of ... Creme A
