"Rouge-trading Across the Universe"

"The Lost Crate" - A Rogue Trader progression narrative

We had a small Rogue Trader game the other week (yes, using the RT game rules) and it was pure nostalgia seeing all the old minis on an equally pathos-laden table :)

Fellow oldhammerer, Nuka, and I had been talking about getting a series of games together before the lockdown and we jumped the first opportunity that presented itself.

I wrote up a loose storyline and fitted it to the Mordheim scenario "The Lost Prince" (a capture the flag-style mission). The scenario intro reads a bit like this:

"The (in)Famous celebrity chef, Remee Tredzepi, has lost a load of precious cargo crates containing a selection of endangered rare beasts meant to be the main ingredients of his most recent connoisseurs-dinner, (to be enjoyed by the rich and famous in Proximo Prime, a hive city on the main planet in the cluster).

The cargo was lost en route to the remote smuggler’s hub, Lohan’s Reach, and is believed to be found among the scrap heaps near the loading docks used by Tredzepi’s longtime compadre, the notorious interstellar buccaneer, Trick Beastley.

You have been hired, through independent contractors, to retrieve said crates. Only problem, you are not the only one who has been approached! Also, the local plantery defense has been hinted that something is afoot and are lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on suspicious activity."

We decided to just make up two crews not concerning ourselves with point values and balance, using the appropriate statlines and equipment from the book. Without further ado, I present the pictures taken on the day.

Overview of the table
We included a number of NPCs who would alert the local authorities when activated.
More NPCs.
Something lurking in the cargo bay.
The underhive scum silence an old man in street (they blew his face off).
The (evil) Rogue Trader psyker leads his salty space-sea dogs into the city from scrap site shags (obligatory beer pic).
The Rogue Trader crew advancing.
Inquistor Jahon Gothhart leading his crew of hired (and expendable) ragtags through the streets of Lohan's Reach.
Gothhart draws a deep breath before enter the fray.
Singlehandedly, Gothhart holds the Rogue Traders at bay while his hired thugs retrieve the crate containing the exotic beast for Remee's restaurant.
Battle in the streets. Rogue Trader hard noses in close quarter fighting with the underhive cutthroats.
The pirates try to snatch the beast from the dregs.
Once alerted, The Planetary Defense sends a squad of hardened veterans to intercept the perpetrators.
A lone Imperial Guard sneaks around the back streets to ambush Gothhart.

Although not documented, Gothhart managed to lead the beast safely out the board, thus "winning" the scenario. All of his crew were slaughtered, as were the Rogue Trader pirates, so we will have to cook up something new for next time. I have an idea which involves the NPCs from this game. And the infamous chef and his cronies obviously :)

WIP minis for our Proximo Hive game

Enough words, let's see some lead, well partly painted that is...

We're going to play a game, even a short campaign, using some of our old 40k minis and build new ones (cause it's all part of the fun!). Haven't decided on the system yet, nor have we starting building terrain, but a first encounter game is brewing in my mind.

I've starting building a small Daemon Hunter band:

Some underhive scum:

And Iacobi the Seer:

Can see the pics aren't the best. I'll try to take some better ones soon... And get the minis finished :)

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Thomas

The Maw and Iacobi the Seer

In the nether regions of Proximo Hive near the Eastern Entrance there's a particulary eerie place called the Maw. It was a hidden smugglers den an entrance to the outlying wastes with direct passage thru old gas pipes and rundown factory complexes, but this place has been forgotten even by the underhive gangs. This place is known as the Maw and is now haunted by evil ghosts from the ash wastes, or so it is believed.

The stories of the Starchild has been told all over the hive, by everyone high and low, from the Spyre to the Pit, although no one remember where the stories originated. "Children's stories", people said, "fables of olde time". So who best knew the tales of olde? One seer, also long forgotten and known to wander the most desolate regions of the underhive, would certainly know, people said. Iacobi was his name. He was long dead, people said, others claimed they saw him just the other day. Some said he was a ghost. Until the spyrers hired the best ratskins money, women and booze could afford. And the ratskins did find him alright, well traces of him ... traces led into the Maw.

"The idea alone is daft and risqué, well more than that. It's certain death! Hah!", responded the Govenor in his usual obulente fashion, waving his arms around in an imitated theatrical manner. But he made certain that the word surged thru Proximo' social layers. The Guvenor would pay handsomely for the presence of Iacobi the Seer. All there was now to wait. For Proximo's underworld to work it's wonderful magic and rely on the hard work and the greed of the gangs, travelling pirate adventurers and bounty hunters, well hunters of all sorts...
